::getting sleepy again
03:25 a.m. - 2006-09-22
So now I'm in Exeter. It's 3 a.m. and I'm awake. I went to bed around 9:30, but alas, the jet lag and general exhaustion makes it hard for me to sleep.
I really had a big ordeal getting here. Basically the most stressful flight experience I've ever had. First off, I had a really tight connection to make in DC to begin with, but then my first plane was delayed. I went through Chicago instead. The plane to Chicago boarded on time, and then sat on the runway for close to an hour, making me nearly miss my connection to London. When I arrive in London, of course, my luggage was not there, even though I arranged to have it re-checked. Last I heard my bags were in DC. The United people innitially promised me that they'd get them to Exeter later that day, but now they're saying not until tomorrow. Anyway, taking the plane from Chicago made me miss the bus that I had already paid £20 for. I didn't feel like going on a 4-hour coach ride so I paid £70 for a ticket to Exeter. It all really was a hastle. But not having my extremely large bags with me did make the trip easier.
Luckily, I antisipated not having my bags with me. Really I was convinced of it, so I packed pjs and spare clothes in my carry-on. I had to go out and buy a towel and toothpaste and shampoo (you're no longer aloud to take liquids or gels with you on flights), but that wasn't too bad, and the shower was worth it. I don't have any sheets on my bed at the momemt, though.
I finally settled into my flat which I like very much. There will be 6 of us, but only one other guy is moved in yet. We're on the fourth floor, so it's really a bit of a hike. It's kind of shabby, but also really neat. There are all sorts of exposed beams, and the ceiling goes at all sorts of weird angles. Also, my flat is two floors. I live on the bottom floor, but the toilets and kitchen is on the top floor. George House is "under the iron bridge" and basically I have to walk under this iron bridge, and then under this brich arch, down this really cute alley with cobblestones. It really is a neat building, too bad my room really smells bad!
